With Trump-Vance's victory on Wednesday, 38-year-old Usha is set to become America's Second Lady, making her the first Indian-American to hold the post. She stood with Vance, the 39-year-old Ohio senator, as Trump delivered his acceptance speech after securing enough votes to return to the White House.
Vance, a Yale Law graduate, made headlines earlier this year when her husband became Trump's vice presidential nominee. Usha Chilukuri is the daughter of Indian immigrants.
The news of JD Vance, husband of Indian-origin Usha Vance becoming the Vice President of America, brought a wave of happiness in Vadaluru village of Andhra Pradesh. The villagers celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets. Usha's family is originally from this village and they also have a temple here. Her parents' ancestral village is in Vadaluru in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, although Usha grew up in a suburb of San Diego.
