Increase in food prices

The prices of vegetables remained unstable throughout the year, sometimes the prices of tomatoes, onions and sometimes green vegetables kept touching the sky. The main reasons for this were supply chain disruptions and seasonal changes.

Fuel prices going out of control

The continuous increase in prices of petrol and diesel increased not only the traffic but also the cost of freight transportation. Due to continuous increase in crude oil prices in the international markets and taxes by the central and state governments, fuel prices reached record levels.

This had a direct impact on every item for which diesel is used for transportation, that is, everything from fruits, vegetables to industrial raw materials became expensive. The prices of LPG Cylinder also increased several times, due to which the budget of housewives was badly affected.

Increase in housing and transportation costs

The impact of inflation was not limited to the kitchen only. Housing cost also increased. Due to increase in the prices of cement, steel and construction material, building or repairing a house became expensive.

There was also a jump in the rent of rental properties in some cities. Additionally, consumers also had to spend more on transportation as cab and auto-rickshaw fares increased due to costlier auto parts and fuel prices.

Due to increase in the prices of all these things, the inflation rate remained high. The common man had to spend more of his savings to meet his needs. Due to this, people of middle class and poor class had to face the most difficulties. Experts demanded the government to provide relief to consumers by removing supply side bottlenecks and taking steps like tax cuts.
