IPL 2025 Retained Players: Ahead of the auction, all participating teams will retain many of their core players and will release some of the players to rebuild their team stronger than before.
According to the new IPL 2025 retention rules released by BCCI, each team can retain six players from their existing squad, either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option.
Though BCCI introduced the RTM in 2014 it was last used in 2018 and since then BCCI has never allowed the teams to use them during the auction. As per the report, the deadline for teams to announce their retention is expected to be around November 15.
According to the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.
