Will West Indies be able to qualify for World Cup 2027? BAN’s victory over Pakistan has made the road difficult

After the recently concluded ODI series between Bangladesh and Pakistan, a bad news has come out for West Indies. After defeating Pakistan 2-1 in the ODI series, Bangladesh is back in the race to qualify directly for next year’s World Cup while the West Indies cricket team’s heartbeat has increased. According to the latest ICC rankings, after winning the series, Bangladesh has moved from 10th to 9th and has left West Indies behind.

West Indies team has slipped to 10th position without playing any match. In the third ODI played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh won the match by 11 runs after defending 290 runs. With this win, Bangladesh can now hope to avoid playing the qualifiers, but will need to continue performing well in this format to retain their ranking.

For those who do not know, let us tell them that next year’s World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Of these, South Africa and Zimbabwe have already qualified as hosts and the remaining top 8 teams will also qualify directly. According to this, the team ranked ninth in the ranking can also directly make it to the World Cup without playing the qualifiers.

As per the schedule, Bangladesh will now play their next ODI series away from home against South Africa in December. On the other hand, West Indies is also not going to play any ODI match any time soon. As of now, their next ODI is likely to be against India in September-October, but the dates have not been decided yet. In such a situation, Bangladesh and West Indies will have to be careful and ensure that they play as many ODI matches as possible to qualify directly for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has managed to retain its fourth position despite losing the series to Bangladesh. He has 102 rating points, three less than he had before the start of the series.
