205 drug samples failed! Cough-fever, including numerous medicines for heart disease, do not take ‘these’ pills by mistake

The Central Pharmaceutical Research Institute has tested samples of domestic drugs and 205 drugs have failed. 47 of these medicines were manufactured in Himachal. These medicines are used for fever, diabetes, heart diseaseare used to treat epilepsy, infections and stomach ailments. These Himachali medicines were manufactured in pharma units located in industrial areas of Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, Solan, Kala Amb, Paonta Sahib and Una. As per the November drug alert issued by CDSCO, these drugs that failed the quality test were declared ‘non-standard quality’ (NSQ). 35 samples of drugs manufactured in Himachal failed in state laboratories and 12 in central laboratories. Five samples from the company located at Kala Amb in Sirmaur district failed.

Orders of Inquiry by the Controller:

According to Himachal Drug Controller Manish Kapoor, notices will be issued to all companies whose drug samples have failed the drug alert, directing them not to release the stocks of the concerned drugs in the market.

Firms whose drug samples have repeatedly failed will be identified and strict action will be taken, it is worth noting that CDSCO issues a separate drug alert every month.

A large number of drug samples fail every month in Himachal Pradesh and the country. Despite several claims by the state government and the Drug Control Department, the samples keep failing time and again. This is a direct threat to patients’ lives.

These drugs include:

NSQ-declared medicines include paracetamol, metformin, clopidogrel, aspirin, ramipril, sodium valpoate, mebeverine hydrochloride, telmisartan, clarithromycin, cefixime and gentamicin injection. These drugs are prescribed to treat typhoid, lung and urinary tract infections, cough, asthma, allergies and digestive disorders.

NOTICE TO COMPANIES IN THESE DISTRICTS:

Companies whose medicines have failed drug alert include 28 in Solan district, 18 in Sirmaur and one in Una. Notices have been issued to all the concerned companies.
