After being out of T20 team, Shubman Gill will now play for Punjab, selected in Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.
Shubman Gill Name in Vijay Hazare Trophy Squad: For Indian cricket’s rising star Shubman Gill, the needle of time seems to be turning the other way. After being dropped from the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2026, Gill is now turning to his home ground to regain his lost rhythm.
Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has announced its 18-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting from December 24, in which the name of Shubman Gill features prominently.
Shubman Gill out of T20 World Cup team
Recently, the Indian team was announced for the T20 World Cup 2026, in which Shubman Gill was not given a place. This was no less than a big shock for Gill, who was once considered a future captain. Despite excellent performances in the ODI format in the year 2025, his declining graph in T20 did not go down well with the selectors. Even in the series against Australia and South Africa, he did not live up to the expectations, due to which he had to face the consequences of being out of the World Cup.
Punjab kept suspense on captaincy
Apart from Shubman Gill, this Punjab team also includes big names like Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh, but the surprising thing is that the selection committee has not yet made anyone the official captain. Gill will be able to play only the first few matches in this tournament, because from January 11, he has to take command of the Indian team in the home ODI series against New Zealand.
