20th Anniversary iPhone To Have Solid State Buttons: iPhone 20 Rumors

Apple could be preparing one of the biggest iPhone redesigns in its history for the 20th anniversary iPhone expected in 2027. According to new leaks, the premium anniversary model may feature solid-state buttons instead of traditional physical keys, alongside an all-glass curved design and hidden under-display components.

The leak comes from tipster Instant Digital, who claims Apple is actively testing pressure-sensitive solid-state buttons for the special edition iPhone. These buttons would provide haptic feedback instead of physically moving when pressed.

What Are Solid-State Buttons?

Unlike conventional buttons that mechanically click, solid-state buttons use pressure sensors and haptic motors to simulate a button press. Similar technology already exists in Apple’s MacBook trackpads and older iPhone home buttons.

The rumored system is reportedly designed to work even under difficult conditions such as:

  • Wet hands
  • Gloves
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Thick phone cases

Apple is also said to be testing an ultra-low-power chip that could allow the buttons to remain functional even when the iPhone is switched off.

A Truly All-Screen iPhone?

The anniversary iPhone is also rumored to feature a nearly seamless glass design with no visible cutouts or bezels. Reports suggest Apple may integrate:

  • Under-display Face ID
  • Hidden front camera
  • Under-display speaker system
  • Quad-curved OLED display

This could result in a completely uninterrupted display experience, pushing Apple closer to a fully bezel-less smartphone design.

Bigger Battery, Reverse Charging Expected

The leak also mentions a significantly larger battery capacity, reportedly around 6,000mAh, which would be among the biggest ever on an iPhone. Reverse wireless charging is also rumored, allowing users to charge accessories like AirPods or Apple Watch directly from the iPhone.

Apple may additionally introduce a stronger display protection layer, informally referred to in leaks as “Ceramic Shield Ultra,” aimed at improving scratch resistance.

Rumors Still Far From Confirmation

While the leak has generated excitement among Apple fans, the company has previously explored solid-state buttons without bringing them to commercial iPhones. Similar rumors surfaced before the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro but never materialized.

Since the anniversary iPhone is still expected more than a year away, the final hardware and features could change significantly before launch. However, if these reports turn out to be accurate, Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone could become one of the most futuristic smartphones ever released.
