21 deaths, 10 policemen injured… Where were those who died in the Delhi fire incident from?
The massive fire that broke out on Wednesday morning in Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar, Delhi shocked the entire city. 21 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a multi-storey building being used as a hotel and bed and breakfast (B&B) facility, while 10 policemen were injured during relief and rescue operations. 18 foreign nationals are said to be among the dead, due to which this accident has become a topic of discussion at the international level as well.
After the incident, several teams of fire department, police and administration reached the spot and conducted rescue operations for hours. However, the fire spread so fast that many people did not get a chance to get out. At present, the identity of the dead and the exact cause of the fire are being investigated.

Citizens of many countries became victims of the accident
According to preliminary information, the dead include citizens of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Mozambique, Somalia and Liberia. After the death of a large number of foreign nationals, the police and administration are trying to contact their families. Besides, the embassies of the concerned countries are also being informed about the incident. Officials say the process of identifying the deceased is ongoing and detailed information will be made public after the investigation is completed.
10 policemen involved in rescue operation injured
10 Delhi Police personnel were injured during the relief and rescue operation. These include many head constables and constables. According to officials, as soon as the PCR call was received, police and fire department teams reached the spot and started evacuating people without caring for their safety. The injured personnel include head constables Kartar (32), Hargyan (40), Prem Chand (40), Jitendra (40) and Dinesh (35) and constables Vikram (34), Deepak (38), Rampal (30), Sandeep (30) and Ravi Ranjan (26).

How did the fire start?
Based on the statements and reports of eyewitnesses, earlier it was feared that this accident happened due to explosion of LPG cylinder. As the investigation progressed, the fire department and police officials clarified that the actual cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit. According to fire officials, a restaurant named ‘Lemon Green’ was running on the ground floor of this five-storey building, while the rest of the floors were being used as a hotel. The fire started from the main building of the hotel and within no time spread from the basement to the fifth floor.
