Hyderabad: 22 students have fallen ill after eating mid-day meal in a government school in Narayanpet district of Telangana. The students were admitted to the hospital for treatment on Tuesday after they complained of headache and stomach ache. Officials are investigating whether the children fell ill because of the mid-day meal served in the school. According to the District Education Officer (DEO), the affected students had also purchased food items from nearby bakeries and shops. At the same time, based on preliminary information, samples have been collected from there also for lab testing.
An official aware of the matter said that on Tuesday, more than 400 students had lunch at Zilla Parishad High School in Maganur along with district officials, school principal and teachers. But at 3.30 pm, 22 students started showing symptoms of headache, stomach ache and vomiting. He was admitted to the hospital, where doctors, after treatment, confirmed that he was safe, the official said. One student who vomited said the potatoes and brinjal were not cooked properly, while the other had stomach pain.

Students fell ill after eating
It was alleged that the affected students fell ill after having lunch, although they had also eaten breakfast from outside the school. The district authorities are investigating the matter from all angles, a senior official said. Let us inform that this incident follows a similar case on November 20, when 17 students of the same school were admitted to the hospital after eating mid-day meal.
CM Revanth Reddy took cognizance of the incident
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, reacting to the incident, directed the District Collector to conduct a thorough investigation to find out the cause and accountability of the incident to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office highlighted Reddy's instructions to ensure best care of students and called for preventive measures to be taken in all districts.
