24 bottles of rosewood and teak wood cut from Sohelwa of Balrampur recovered, two arrested

Balrampur. Illegal logging is not stopping in the Bankatwa range of Sohelwa Wildlife Division. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Forest Department team have recovered 24 bundles of rosewood and teak wood from different places. Two accused have also been arrested. Ninth Battalion SSB had received information about illegal storage of wild wood in Gandelanaka border post area. SSB informed the forest department. After this, a joint team was formed and the campaign was carried out. The team first raided a suspicious house in village Binhauni.

During the search, wild sheesham wood was recovered. Barkau was taken into custody from the spot and interrogated. On the basis of enquiry, the joint team also raided village Hinduli Kalan. Wild teak wood was recovered from here and Munshi Pandey was arrested from the house. A total of 24 tonnes of illegal wild wood was seized from both the places, which has been taken into custody by the Forest Department.

This wood was collected after illegal felling and there is a possibility of smuggling. Forest Officer Shatrohan Lal said that a continuous campaign is being run to curb illegal felling and wood smuggling in the area. Besides, an appeal has been made to the general public to immediately inform the concerned department about such activities, so that action can be taken in time. Both the accused have been arrested.
