Launch of 24 new Atal canteens in Delhi: Rs 25 subsidy on every plate, food at Rs 5
The scheme to provide affordable and respectable food in the capital Delhi has got a big expansion. With the opening of 24 new Atal canteens, their total number has increased to 70 in the city. Vinay Kumar Saxena and Rekha Gupta were present in the inauguration program organized through digital medium from Nursery Basti of Krishna Nagar. After the program, both the leaders sat and had lunch with the common citizens and took stock of the arrangements of the scheme.
Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena said that with the launch of new Atal canteens, the facility of food at low prices in different areas of the capital Delhi will be further strengthened. He said that this initiative is proving to be a great relief especially for the economically weaker sections. According to him, by providing nutritious food at affordable rates, daily wage laborers, needy and people of low income group are directly benefiting. The Lieutenant Governor said that the government aims to expand this scheme to more and more areas of the city, so that no needy person remains hungry and can get food with dignity.
Emphasis on respectable and nutritious food
Rekha Gupta said that the new canteen initiative of the government has been prepared keeping in mind the working people and people of low income group. He said that it is the primary responsibility of the government to provide nutritious and balanced food for just five rupees. The Chief Minister directed the officials to strictly follow the standards of quality, cleanliness and taste of food so that the needy can get food with dignity. The Chief Minister also clarified that the scheme is being operated with complete transparency and its objective is to provide relief to people including daily wage laborers who earn their living on a daily basis.
These canteens are being operated by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board. Many public representatives and local citizens including Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood and Krishna Nagar MLA Dr. Anil Goyal were present in the inauguration program. The main objective of the canteens is to provide clean, cheap and nutritious food to the daily wage labourers, rickshaw pullers, street vendors, sanitation workers and other low income group people, so that they can get relief in the times of inflation.
Scheme started from Atal Jayanti
The Lieutenant Governor informed that this public welfare scheme was started on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said that since then this initiative is being taken forward in a phased manner, so that its benefits can reach more and more needy people. He said that the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 25 on each plate, so that nutritious food can be provided to the poor and working people at just Rs 5. This scheme is especially providing relief to the daily wage laborers and people of low income group.
Target of 100 canteens, focus on inclusive development
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta clarified that the government’s aim is to set up 100 Atal canteens in the capital. He said that this scheme is not limited to just providing cheap food, but is an important step towards providing a sense of security and dignity to the weaker and needy sections of the society.
The Chief Minister said that with the expansion of the canteens, more and more people will benefit from it, especially the daily wage laborers and low income group families. He expressed confidence that due to the continuous efforts of the government, continuous work is being done towards the goal that no person should sleep hungry in the capital.
