All 25 northern provinces and three north-central provinces experienced temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius during the third day of a cold spell.
The lowest temperatures were recorded in Trung Khanh (Cao Bang) and Dong Van (Ha Giang), plummeting to zero, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Other areas, including Sin Ho (Lai Chau), Bac Ha (Lao Cai), Ngan Son (Bac Kan), Nguyen Binh (Cao Bang), and Dinh Lap (Lang Son), dropped to 3 degrees .

In Hanoi, the Ha Dong weather station reported a temperature of 8 degrees while Hoai Duc and Son Tay recorded around 10 degrees, and Lang measured slightly above 12 degrees .
In the north-central region, provinces like Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, and Nghe An also saw temperatures dip below 10 degrees, with Tay Hieu (Nghe An) recording the region’s lowest temperature at 6 degrees .
This is the coldest spell of the winter season for 2024–2025.
By 8–9 a.m. Sunday, skies began to clear, and temperatures gradually rose. The highest temperatures on Sunday reached 20 degrees in Hanoi and 12 degrees in Sa Pa (Lao Cai).
The center forecasts that cold weather will persist in the north and north-central regions due to strong cold air activity. Temperatures in some mountainous areas are expected to remain below 3 degrees, while midland areas will see 6–9 degrees, and plains will range from 9–12 degrees .
Ice and frost are likely to form on several mountain peaks.
As the north enters the heart of winter, the frequency and intensity of cold air waves are expected to increase, particularly from mid-January 2025.
