Kusal Mendis and Mahish Tikshina gave strong performance, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 3 wickets

In the second match of the three-match ODI series, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 3 wickets with the help of brilliant performances from Kusal Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana.

With this, Sri Lanka captured the series 2-0. The match played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium was rained due to which the match had to be played in 47 overs each.

New Zealand, batting first, were all out on the score of 209 in 5.1 overs. Mark Chapman scored the highest score of 76 (81) runs for the team. In this innings he hit 7 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, Mitch Hay played an innings of 49(62) runs. In this innings he hit 4 fours. Whereas Will Young contributed 26(40) runs.

In this innings he hit 3 fours. Chapman and Mitch made an important partnership of 75 (78) runs for the 5th wicket. Mahish Tikshina and Jeffrey Vandersay took maximum 3-3 wickets for Sri Lanka. 2 wickets went to the account of Asitha Fernando. Dunith Vellalaghe and captain Charith Asalanka took one wicket each.

Sri Lanka, chasing the target, won the match by scoring 210 runs losing 7 wickets in 46 overs. Kusal Mendis played an unbeaten half-century of 74 runs with the help of 6 fours in 102 balls. Pathum Nissanka contributed 28 runs with the help of 33 balls and 4 fours. Tikshna contributed 22 runs in 44 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six. Kusal and Tikshina made a partnership of 47(59)* runs for the eighth wicket. Michael Bracewell took the maximum 4 wickets for New Zealand. Captain Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips and Nathan Smith took one wicket each.
