Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by 5 wickets in the second match of the three-match ODI series with the help of brilliant performances by the bowlers. With this, Sri Lanka captured the series 2-0. The second ODI match played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele was reduced to 44 overs each due to rain.
Batting first, West Indies team was all out on the score of 189 in 36 overs. Sherfane Rutherford scored the most runs for the team. He played a half-century of 80 runs in 82 balls with the help of 7 fours and 4 sixes. Gudakesh Moti played an unbeaten half-century of 50 runs in 61 balls with the help of 6 fours.
Rutherford and Moti made an important century partnership of 119 (115) runs for the 9th wicket. At one time West Indies had lost 8 wickets at the score of 58. After this, the partnership of Rutherford and Moti brought West Indies back into the match and set a challenging score. Wanindu Hasaranga took maximum 4 wickets for Sri Lanka. Mahish Tikshina and Asitha Fernando have succeeded in taking 3-3 wickets.
Sri Lanka, chasing the target, won the match by losing 5 wickets and scoring 190 runs in 38.2 overs. Captain Charit Aslanka scored the most runs for the team. He played an unbeaten half-century of 62 runs in 61 balls with the help of 7 fours and one six. Nishan Madushka played an innings of 38 runs in 44 balls with the help of 6 fours. Sadira Samarawickrama also played an inning of 38 (50) runs. Janith Liyanage contributed 24 runs in 34 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six.
Madushka and Samarawickrama added 62(65) runs for the third wicket. Captain Asalanka and Liyanage made a partnership of 55 (65) runs for the 5th wicket. Alzarri Joseph took the maximum 2 wickets for West Indies. Gudakesh Moti and Roston Chase managed to get one wicket each.
