First of all, in the T20 World Cup 2026, on 16 February, Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka scored unbeaten 100 runs in 52 balls against Australia. The very next day i.e. on 17th February, young Canadian batsman Yuvraj Samra surprised everyone by playing an explosive inning of 110 runs against New Zealand. Then on 18 February, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan scored unbeaten 100 runs in 58 balls against Namibia. Three centuries in three consecutive days had never happened before in the history of the T20 World Cup.

According to Cricbuzz, with these three centuries, T20 World Cup 2026 has now become the edition with the highest number of centuries. Before this, no one had scored more than two centuries in any one edition. Only two centuries each were seen in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2022. But this time three centuries were scored in just three days.

Who has scored a century so far in the T20 World Cup?

In the history of T20 World Cup, West Indies’ legendary batsman Chris Gayle, popularly known as ‘Universe Boss’, first scored a century against South Africa in the 2007 edition. After this, in 2010, Suresh Raina scored centuries against South Africa and Mahela Jayawardene scored centuries against Zimbabwe. At the same time, in the 2012 edition, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum scored a century against Bangladesh. Then in 2014, England’s Alex Hales (vs Sri Lanka) and Pakistan’s Ahmed Shahzad (vs Bangladesh) achieved this feat.

In 2016, Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal (vs Oman) and West Indies’ Chris Gayle (vs England) scored centuries. Whereas, in 2021, England’s Jos Buttler (vs. Sri Lanka), while in 2022, South Africa’s Riley Rossouw (vs. Bangladesh) and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips (vs. Sri Lanka) scored centuries. It is noteworthy that the 2009 T20 World Cup was the only edition in which not a single century was scored. That year, Pakistan won the title by defeating Sri Lanka and the tournament was played in England.
