3 Women Among 17 Bangladeshi Nationals Held by ATS in Maharashtra for Illegal Stay | Read
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), working in conjunction with local law enforcement, apprehended 17 Bangladeshi nationals—14 men and three women—for illegally entering and residing in India.
The arrests followed a series of raids conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik. The operation was initiated based on a tip-off aimed at identifying and addressing the issue of illegal immigrants in the state.
An official, speaking to news agency PTI, stated, “The ATS executed the operation in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik this week with local police assistance. A total of 17 Bangladeshi nationals, including 14 males and three females, were arrested for unauthorized entry into India and for living in the country without valid documentation.”
Investigations have uncovered the use of forged documents, such as Aadhaar and PAN cards, to create false identities to evade detection while in the country.
At least 10 cases have been filed under the Foreigners Act of 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act of 1950, and the Passport Act of 1967. Ongoing investigations are being carried out at the relevant police stations.
