3-year-old boy becomes youngest chess player in history to achieve FIDE rating
Mumbai Mumbai. 3-year-old Anish Sarkar, born in Kolkata on January 26, 2021, has established himself as the youngest rated chess player in history, achieving an initial FIDE rating of 1555. The young player made his first appearance in competitive chess with the West Bengal State Under 9-Open in October and quickly rose up the ranks through some impressive performances. Playing in the Under 9-Open in October, Sarkar achieved an astonishing rating of 5.5 out of 8, leaving him ranked 24th overall, beating some rated players like Aarav Chatterjee and Ahilan Baishya. Sarkar also got a chance to play against World No. 4 Grandmaster Arjun Erigaysi in the Bengal Rapid Rating Open. A week later, Sarkar participated in the West Bengal State Under-13 Open, in which he faced older and experienced players. He faced five rated players and ultimately earned a FIDE rating point of 1555. Sarkar overtook Tejas Tiwari, who held the previous record of being the youngest FIDE-rated player, at the age of five.
Former Grand Master and Sarkar's coach Dibyendu Barua revealed that the young player's coaches are astute to such an extent that once they sit down, they refuse to get up from the table. Barua told PTI: “He reminds me of Mitrabha Guha. Anish definitely has potential, but he still has a long way to go. We have put him in a special group, where he trains for 7 to 8 hours Sometimes he even comes to my house to play and once he sits on the board, he doesn't even get up. His concentration is really amazing.”
