About 30 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport, named “Asia’s leading airport” at the 2025 World Travel Awards, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department said the blaze started at around 3 p.m. in an electrical engineering room, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.
Two fire engines and two teams of firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus were called to the scene and put out the flames by 4:01 p.m., the department added.
A video posted on social media by Kenji Lam showed firefighters wearing breathing apparatus directing a hose toward Gate D212, as thick black smoke billowed through the concourse.
Airport authorities said three boarding bridges were temporarily closed during the firefighting operation, Asia One reported.
No injuries were reported.
Hong Kong International Airport surpassed Singapore Changi to claim the title of “Asia’s leading airport” at the 2025 World Travel Awards thanks to its effort to upgrade services and facilities.
