35 police teams, 72 hours operation and UPI payment… this is how the accused who attacked Saif was arrested
The attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in Mumbai shocked the entire nation. To solve this high-profile case, Mumbai Police deployed more than 300 personnel and cracked the case within 72 hours. The attack accused Shariful Islam, who was living with a fake identity, was arrested by the police from Thane.
A small mistake played the most important role in the success of this operation. The accused made a UPI payment to buy a paratha and a water bottle in Worli, which helped the police track his phone number and location.
Success achieved through investigation of 600 CCTV cameras
After the attack on Saif Ali Khan, Mumbai Police scanned the footage of 600 CCTV cameras of his apartment in Bandra and surrounding areas. Police saw the accused getting down from the bike in a footage, from which the registration number of the vehicle was traced. After this the search for the accused intensified.
Accused caught from bushes in Thane
The last location of the accused was found in a deserted area of Thane, where he was hiding in the bushes. The police surrounded the area from all sides and took him into custody. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused is a citizen of Bangladesh and had entered India illegally.
Reiki was also done on Shahrukh Khan's house
The attacker admitted that he had also done recce of Shahrukh Khan's 'Mannat' bungalow. However, due to tight security there he could not enter inside. After this he planned to infiltrate Saif Ali Khan's house.
Complete sequence of attack
On the night of 16 January, the accused tried to enter Saif Ali Khan's apartment in Bandra. When he failed in the robbery, he attacked the actor. Injured Saif was immediately admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Fake name and background exposed
Police investigation revealed that the accused had identified himself by the name Bijoy Das and he worked as a housekeeper in a restaurant in Worli. The restaurant management said that he worked there from September 2024 to December 2024.

Mumbai Police suspects that there may be an international conspiracy behind the illegal entry of the accused into India and the attack. Police told the court that the accused did not have any valid Indian documents, which confirmed that he was a Bangladeshi citizen. Saif Ali Khan's condition is improving rapidly after the attack. According to doctors, he may be discharged from the hospital soon.
