350 feet depth, 37 km speed… how powerful is the submarine in which the President traveled?

INS Kalvari Submarine Features: President of India Draupadi Murmu visited INS Kadamba Naval Base in Karwar, Karnataka followed by a sea voyage in INS Kalvari (S-21) submarine. The President traveling in a submarine like this is considered very rare and historic. Before this, she had also traveled in indigenous aircraft carrier and Rafale fighter jet. This journey was a morale booster for the Indian Navy soldiers.

Why is INS Kalvari called ‘Silent Killer’?

INS Kalvari is called silent killer because it is adept in dodging enemy radar and sonar systems. It is equipped with advanced acoustic silencing technology, due to which it becomes almost invisible inside the sea. The ability to attack without the enemy noticing makes it extremely dangerous.

Tremendous combination of power and technology

INS Kalvari has been built under Project-75. It has been designed by Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in collaboration with France’s Naval Group Company. This submarine works on both diesel and electric systems. Its length is about 67.5 meters and 40 to 45 sailors can be deployed in it.

Under water for 50 days, enemy unaware

INS Kalvari can remain under the sea for about 50 days at a time. It is capable of covering a distance of approximately 12,000 kilometers. Its weight becomes 1600 tons on the surface and 1800 tons inside water. Its speed reaches 20 km per hour on the surface and 37 km per hour underwater.
