35th Mango Festival inaugurated in Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta said – ‘Mango Diplomacy’ increased India’s identity in the world

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the 35th three-day ‘Annual Mango Festival-2026’ organized by Delhi Tourism Department at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri. Cabinet ministers Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa were also present on this occasion. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that mango is not only the king of fruits but also an emotional symbol associated with Indian culture, family traditions and countless childhood memories. He said that mango is an integral part of Indian lifestyle and cultural heritage. Mango Festival organized in today’s times is an important medium to connect the new generation with Indian traditions, culture and heritage. Such events not only introduce people to the rich agricultural and horticultural tradition of the country, but also provide an opportunity for families to spend time together and promote local products.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that displaying different varieties of mangoes from across the country at one place and providing an opportunity to people to taste them is a commendable initiative towards promoting Indian agriculture and cultural heritage. The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Delhi, especially children and families, to participate in the Annual Mango Mahotsav-2026 in maximum numbers. Delhi tourism will get a new dimension

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi is being developed not just as a transit city but as a major ‘tourist destination city’. For this, tourism facilities are being expanded and new attractions are being developed in the capital. He said that religious tourism circuit is being developed with the aim of promoting religious tourism. Along with this, double decker bus service has been started by Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) and Delhi Darshan Bus service has also been started again, so that tourists can easily visit the major tourist places of the capital. Kapil Mishra said that after the monsoon session, international level cruise experience in Yamuna river will also be made available for Delhiites and tourists. He says that these initiatives will give a new identity to Delhi tourism and tourists coming from India and abroad will get an opportunity to see new attractions of the capital and experience better tourism facilities.

400 varieties of mangoes will be the center of attraction in the festival

According to the Delhi Government, more than 400 varieties of mangoes from across the country will be displayed in the 35th Annual Mango Festival-2026. These include famous varieties like Husnaara, Rataul, Ramkela, Kesar, Mallika, Amrapali, Fazli and Hathijhool. At the festival, some mangoes will be as small as grapes and some will be as big as papaya, which will give a glimpse of the extraordinary biodiversity of mangoes in India. The government said that mango is a rich source of beta-carotene, which gets converted into vitamin A in the body and is beneficial for eyes and overall health. Mango growers from different states of the country will showcase their best varieties in the festival. These also include many varieties that farming families have developed through decades of selection, grafting and continuous experimentation.

India is the world’s largest mango producing country

According to the Delhi government, the history of mango cultivation in the Indian subcontinent is believed to be around 4,000 years old. Mango has been an integral part of Indian agriculture, culture and food for centuries and even today its popularity remains intact in the country and the world. India is currently the largest mango producing country in the world and India alone accounts for about 50 percent of the global mango production. Not only this, out of about 1,500 mango varieties known in the world, about 1,000 varieties are found in India, which reflects the country’s rich biodiversity and horticultural tradition.

Farmers, agricultural universities and research institutes from across the country will be involved

According to the Delhi Government, there will be active participation of mango growers, agricultural universities, research institutes, government departments and farmer organizations from across the country in the 35th Annual Mango Festival-2026. The objective of the event is to bring together the diverse varieties of mango as well as scientific research, modern horticulture techniques and innovations of farmers on one platform. Many reputed institutions including ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa), ICAR-Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture (Lucknow), Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (Pantnagar), Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (Hisar), Directorate of Horticulture (Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh) and Bihar Agricultural University (Sabaur, Bhagalpur) are participating in the Mahotsav.

Apart from this, organizations like Kisan Mango Society, Earth Mango Society, Malihabad Mango Farmer Producer Company Limited, Society for Conservation of Mango Diversity and Avadh Agritech (Malihabad) are also registering their participation. Major mango producers Tariq Mustafa, Rambir, Akhlaq Ali, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Junaid will showcase their excellent mango varieties.

Mango Eating Contest and Family Entertainment

This time too in the 35th Annual Mango Festival-2026, popular events like ‘Sau Hai Daam, Jitne Khao Aam’ will be the center of attraction for the people. Visitors will be able to purchase fresh mangoes as well as various processed mango products, food items and mango plants. The most popular attraction of the Mahotsav will be the Mango Eating Competition, held separately for men and women, in which participants will take part in the challenge of eating the most mangoes in the stipulated time. Apart from this, colorful cultural programs, exhibition of handicrafts and artisan products, special kids zone for children’s entertainment, attractive selfie points and food stalls of various delicious dishes will also be organized in the event.
