36 rooms, luxurious staircase…Who was Nizam Osman Ali Khan, who built Hyderabad House? Where President Putin is being hosted

New Delhi : Since the evening of December 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s convoy has been roaming continuously on the busy streets of Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him warmly at the airport and took him to his residence for a private dinner. The very next day, Putin was given a guard of honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan and then he went to Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Now his India-Russia summit is being held at Hyderabad House, where defense cooperation, energy, trade and global issues are expected to be discussed. But the most interesting thing about this tour is that this talk is taking place in that historical building, which was once the royal identity of the last Nizam of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad House, a wonderful combination of luxury and simplicity
Let us tell you that Nizam Osman Ali Khan was the seventh and last ruler of the princely state of Hyderabad, whose rule lasted from 1911 to 1948. He is said to be the richest ruler of his time. It is said that he had immense reserves of gold and silver, a huge collection of diamonds and property worth billions of rupees. Despite this, he wore very simple clothes, ate simple food and stayed away from unnecessary ostentation. He promoted education, health and public works during his reign. Osmania University and many other institutions are still an example of his foresight.

Reason for building Hyderabad House in Delhi
The Nizam built Hyderabad House in Delhi so that he could have a grand venue for his diplomatic relations and official functions in the capital. During that period, the kings of the princely states of the country used to build attractive residences to show their strong presence in Delhi. Nizam also wanted that when he came to Delhi, he should have such a palatial house which would show the prestige of his princely state. This is the reason why this building was built like a royal palace, in which their grandeur and the identity of Hyderabad is clearly visible.

Unique design of Hyderabad House
Hyderabad House was designed by the famous British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, who designed iconic buildings like Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament of India. The building has a circular structure and shows a mixture of Indo-Saracenic style, a style that beautifully blends Indian and European architecture. Inside, huge Durbar Hall, royal rooms and attractive meeting spaces were arranged. Due to its beauty and unique heritage, this building is counted among the major historical buildings of Delhi.

Hyderabad House, India’s diplomatic landmark
Today Hyderabad House has become the main diplomatic venue of the Government of India. When Presidents, Prime Ministers and high level representatives of many countries of the world come to India, their important meetings are held in this building. Many big international agreements like India-America, India-Russia, India-Japan are decided here. The once private palace of the Nizam has now become a major platform for India’s modern foreign policy and global relations.
