Rashid last played a Test match against Zimbabwe in March 2021 and will now make a comeback against the same team as Afghanistan is scheduled to tour in December. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Naseeb Khan confirmed this, saying that the all-rounder has recovered from his back injury and is ready to play red-ball cricket.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said, “We are confident that Rashid will play for us in the Test series against Zimbabwe. He (Rashid) took a long time to recover due to back surgery and we wanted him to shoulder the burden of playing Test cricket. He should recover completely before lifting. Now he looks fine and is ready to play for us in Test cricket.”
The return of Rashid Khan will be a big boost for Afghanistan's bowling department. The ACB had earlier said he would stay away from the longer format until November, but there were also doubts over his availability for the Zimbabwe tour. For those who do not know, let us tell you that Zimbabwe is going to host Afghanistan for three ODIs, as many T20 and two Test matches. The tour will begin with a three-match T20 series starting on December 9, whose matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The ODI series will be played on this ground from 15 to 19 December. For the first time in 28 years, Zimbabwe will host the Boxing Day Test. The New Year Test will also be played for the first time in the country as both matches will be played in Bulawayo.
