Vaibhav Suryavanshi captain, Aaron George vice captain, Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra out, Team India announced for 3 ODIs
After the defeat in the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025, the Indian team has to play a 3-match ODI series against South Africa. BCCI has announced Team India for this series. Along with this, it has announced its team for the Under-19 T20 World Cup 2026.
BCCI has changed its captain for the South Africa series. Vihan Malhotra and Ayush Mhatre will no longer be a part of Team India in this series. BCCI has also given the reason behind this.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made the new captain of Team India
BCCI has handed over the command of the Under-19 team to Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the ODI series against South Africa. BCCI has kept Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra out of this series. BCCI said that both these players will not be a part of this series due to injury. Both these players have injured their wrists, due to which both these players will not be a part of the series against South Africa.
Both these players have been given a chance in Team India in the Under-19 T20 World Cup 2026. Ayush Mhatre has been made the captain of the Indian team for the Under-19 T20 World Cup 2026, while Vihaan Malhotra has been made the vice-captain of Team India.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been given the captaincy of the Indian team for the ODI series against South Africa. Along with this, Aaron George, who was the most reliable batsman of the Under-19 team, has been made the vice-captain of Team India.
India’s schedule for ODI series against South Africa
The first ODI match between India and South Africa is to be played on January 3 at Willowmoor Park, all the matches of this series will be played on the same ground at Willowmoor Park. The second ODI match between India and South Africa will be played on 5 January 2026, while the third and final match will be played on 7 January.
