4 Guiness World Records For Bengaluru–Vijayawada Expressway

India’s ambitious Bengaluru–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is rapidly emerging as one of the country’s most important highway infrastructure projects. Officially classified as NH-544G, the massive expressway has now drawn international attention after setting multiple Guinness World Records during construction.

The corridor, officially known as the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridoris a six-lane access-controlled expressway connecting Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh under the Bharatmala highway development programme.

Travel Time Between Bengaluru And Vijayawada To Reduce Sharply

Currently, road travel between Bengaluru and Vijayawada can take around 12 hours because of:

  • Congested highways
  • Narrow town roads
  • Sharp curves
  • Heavy truck traffic
  • Lack of direct expressway connectivity

Once completed, the corridor is expected to:

  • Reduce travel distance from around 635 km to nearly 535 km

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), along with concessionaire Rajpath Infracon Private Limited, reportedly achieved four Guinness World Records while constructing sections of the corridor.

The records include:

  • Longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete
  • Highest quantity of bituminous concrete laid continuously within 24 hours
  • Continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete
  • Continuous paving of 156 lane kilometres

According to reports, some of these achievements were recorded for the first time globally under a six-lane national highway project.

Massive Infrastructure Project Across Two States

The Bengaluru–Vijayawada Expressway spans around 518 km and passes through multiple districts across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The expressway forms part of India’s broader Bharatmala Pariyojana highway modernization programme aimed at:

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed officials to complete the Bengaluru–Vijayawada corridor by 2027.
