4 members of 'Band Baaja Baaraat' gang caught by Delhi Police, used to steal in weddings of rich people

New Delhi: Delhi Police has achieved great success. Four people of a gang involved in thefts at weddings have been arrested from the Delhi-Gurugram border. Police gave this information on Thursday. According to police, Rajkumar alias Raju (50), Sumit (30), Mohit (19) and Karan (30) were arrested near Ghitorni metro station on Wednesday when they were planning to target a wedding ceremony. According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia, the thieves belong to the 'Band Baaja Baaraat' gang, which becomes active during the wedding season in Delhi and other parts of the country.

The members of this gang, most of whom are residents of Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, used to use children or women to reach weddings taking place in posh areas and steal bags full of cash and jewellery. Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Vikram Singh said that the four people arrested on Wednesday are residents of Kadiya village in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. The area is notorious for supplying young recruits to organized crime gangs that steal wedding ceremonies across the country.

“Natives of Kadiya and Gulkhedi villages, notorious for the practice of 'renting out' their family members to criminal gangs, often enter into agreements called 'Anudhans' under which families are forced to rent out their members,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police said in a statement. Money is paid for sending someone for theft.

The DCP said that based on intelligence, the team identified Raj Kumar alias Raju as the mastermind behind this series of thefts at weddings. Raj Kumar, 50, of Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, was planning thefts at weddings, using young boys from his village to carry out the crime. According to the police, there are three main criminals, who used to carry out the work of carrying bags and steal valuables from wedding guests. After the theft, Raj Kumar would distribute the stolen items among the gang members.
