Renault and Nissan have started a new chapter in India. As part of their plan, they aim to come up with new products to expand their portfolio and also make a space for themselves in the market. Renault launched the Duster earlier this year, and Nissan also launched their entry-level B-MPV, the Gravite. Here is a list of four more SUVs that Renault and Nissan will be launching in the market later this year.
The first car on this list is the Duster Hybrid. If you are wondering, Renault has already launched the Duster, and deliveries for the same have also begun. However, there is one more variant of the Duster that is yet to be launched. It is the hybrid variant that they showcased at the beginning of this year during the unveiling.
Renault has already started accepting bookings for the hybrid variant, but the official launch of the same will only happen around the festive season this year. Renault said that 40 percent of customers from metro cities have opted for the hybrid variant.
The hybrid variant of the Duster will be powered by a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack. It is said to be the biggest in the segment, and that would result in better efficiency too. Renault claims that the SUV can be used as an EV 80 percent of the time in the city.
Now that the Duster has already been launched, Renault is working on a 7-seater SUV. It is based on the same platform as the Duster but will be slightly longer and might offer a longer wheelbase. It is expected to be based on the Boreal, which has already been unveiled in international markets.
There is a possibility that the upcoming SUV might get a design inspired by the Duster, as many people can relate to the design. In terms of features, the Boreal is expected to come with all the features that we saw in the Duster, along with an additional third-row seat.
It will be offered with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Duster and will generate around 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT gearbox. The Boreal is also expected to be launched later this year.
Nissan has been working on its mid-size SUV along with Renault. We have even seen both these vehicles being tested next to each other. Nissan calls it the Tekton, and it is based on the same platform as the Duster. However, it will get an exterior design heavily inspired by their flagship SUV, the Nissan Patrol.
The SUV will be offered with features like a panoramic sunroof, a large touchscreen like the Duster with Nissan’s UI, a digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS, and many more features.
It will be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. These engine options are expected to be launched this year, while the hybrid version will be launched later next year.
Nissan is also working on a seven-seater SUV, just like Renault, and it will be based on the same platform as the Tekton. It is expected to get the Nissan Patrol-inspired exterior along with three-row seating, an extended wheelbase, and probably more features.
This SUV is expected to be launched after the Tekton’s launch later this year. It will be offered with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with manual and DCT gearbox options.
