New Delhi. The auction of players for IPL 2026 was held on Tuesday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. A total of 369 players were bid, out of which 77 players were sold. Sold players included 48 Indian and 29 foreign stars. If seen, the franchise teams spent a total of Rs 215.45 crore during the auction. But about 40 percent of the total amount spent was spent on only 5 players. Let us tell you about them…
Cameron Green got 25.20 crores
The most expensive player of this auction was Cameron Green. KKR added him for a huge amount of Rs 25.20 crore. Green also became the most expensive foreign player in IPL history. His base price was 2 crores. But there was a lot of bidding on them. Green was earlier sold for Rs 17.50 crore in the year 2023.
18 crores to Mathisha Pathirana
KKR made the second most expensive bid this season. He bought Sri Lankan bowler Mathisha Pathirana for 18 crores. That means KKR spent Rs 43.20 crore for only two players.
Chennai made record bid on two uncapped players
The third most expensive player was Karthik Sharma, who was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14.20 crore. CSK also bought Prashant Veer for the same amount. That means CSK added two players for Rs 28.40 crore.
Hyderabad bet on Livingstone
There were no bids on Liam Livingstone in the first phase of the auction. But when the auction started again, Liam Livingstone’s luck changed. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for a price of Rs 13 crore.
40 percent money to only 5 players
That means IPL teams spent around Rs 86 crore on the top-5 players of this season. A total bid of Rs 215 crore was made. That means 40 percent of the auction was spent on only 5 players.
