44 bids submitted for coal mines under 10th round: Government

Mumbai Mumbai:The Coal Ministry on Friday said 44 bids have been submitted for coal mines offered under the 10th round of commercial coal mine auction. The substantial number of bids underlines the continued interest and participation of stakeholders in India's emerging coal sector. The Coal Ministry had launched the 10th round of auction on June 21, 2024 and offered 67 coal mines for commercial mining.

There has been considerable participation from small and medium-sized players in the auction process, reflecting the inclusive nature of the auction process. “This inclusivity highlights that the reforms in the coal sector have been well received across the industry, regardless of the size of the players,” the coal ministry said in a statement. “Such enthusiastic participation is a step towards more open coal sector reforms in India,” the coal ministry said in a statement. And is a testament to the Ministry's efforts to create a competitive coal market.”

The last date for bid submission was October 18, 2024, marking the conclusion of the bid submission phase. The online bids received during the auction process, along with the offline bids submitted in the office of the designated authority, will be opened on October 21, 2024 in the presence of bidders to ensure transparency and fairness in the evaluation process.
