5 new medical colleges will open in the state: MBBS seats will increase, recruitment will be done on 175 posts…
Chhattisgarh :- The government has started major preparations for the expansion of medical education. From the upcoming academic session, efforts to start medical colleges in five new districts of the state have intensified. For this, the Medical Education Department has started the process of sending the proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC). Besides, preparations for recruitment of faculty and staff in colleges have also started.
New medical colleges will start in these districts
The government is preparing to open new medical colleges in Dantewada, Kabirdham, Manedragarh, Janjgir and Jashpur. The aim is to start MBBS studies in these colleges from the upcoming academic session.
After the opening of these five medical colleges, about 250 new MBBS seats will increase in the state. This is expected to be of great benefit to the students studying medicine.
Recruitment will be done on 175 posts
The biggest challenge for starting new colleges is considered to be the arrangement of faculty. Keeping this in mind, the process of recruitment has been started for a total of 175 posts including 35 professors.
7 professors, 8 associate professors and 10 assistant professors will be appointed in each college. Apart from this, senior and junior resident doctors will also be recruited.
Applications invited till May 13
Medical Education Department has started the application process for these posts. Interested candidates will be able to apply till May 13.
After the application, an interview will be conducted at the Government Medical College, Raipur on 15th and 16th May. Due to opening of colleges in different districts, the recruitment process has been centralized in Raipur.
Contract recruitment becomes a big challenge
Most of the posts in these medical colleges will be filled on contract basis. This is why providing qualified faculty has become a big challenge for the department.
At present the salary for associate professors and assistant professors is fixed at around Rs 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh. Despite this, very few applications are being received in the interviews held from time to time in many medical colleges. Experts believe that due to contractual appointment and limited salary, experienced medical teachers avoid coming to government institutions.
Recruitment of third and fourth class also
In the new medical colleges, not only teachers but also class III and IV employees will be recruited.
Apart from 10 posts each of Medico Social Worker, these include posts like Assistant Grade-3, Stenographer and Technician. Contract recruitment will be done on all these posts also. Now it will be interesting to see how many applications come for these posts and whether the department is able to get sufficient staff or not.
Health facilities will benefit
The government believes that the opening of new medical colleges will not only increase the scope of medical education but will also strengthen health facilities in remote districts. It is expected that the availability of specialist doctors will improve, especially in tribal and backward areas.
Seats will increase, but faculty is the biggest test.
Increasing medical seats in the state is being considered a big achievement for the government, but the real challenge will be the availability of qualified faculty and resources. If teachers and staff are not recruited on time, it may be difficult to start new colleges.
