Written and directed by S.P Jababathan, Iyarkai hit the theaters on November 21st, 2003 & received a modest reception from the critics & the fans. Made on a budget of Rs 1 crore, the romantic drama fared well with the romantic genre enthusiasts who lauded its direction, screenplay as well as acting performances.
Though the movie failed to achieve any major commercial feat on the ticket windows & concluded its Box Office journey with average collections, it emerged as one of the most critically acclaimed Tamil flicks of 2003 & even went on to win the prestigious Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 51st edition of the National Film Awards a year after.
Cast and Production
In its star cast, Iyarki features Shaam and Radhika as the lead pair while also starring others including Arun Vijay, Seema Biswas, Senthil, Karunas, and Chinni Jayanth essaying key supporting roles. V. R. Kumar, in association with A. E. Gunasekaran and G. Natarajan, bankrolled the movie under the banner of Prisem Films.
