Sayonara OTT Release: The upcoming Romantic Drama is all set to stream on 31st December 2024 on Prime Video. Unlike many 1950s romantic dramas, Sayonara deals squarely with racism and prejudice.
Plot
The story of the show follows the life of an Air Force Major who falls in love with a Japanese woman who is an actress in Japan. The Fighter pilot is stationed in Japan where he comes across this Japanese actress and falls in love with her.
He expresses his feelings to her and the two start seeing each other. Meanwhile, the Pilot is sent to Korea to pursue his duties. However there is a twist in their relationship, according to American law, the officers can’t marry a Japanese woman.
One day the couple got into an ugly argument and the pilot used a racial slur against his lady love. However, he apologizes later and promises her to be the best husband ever.
Their relationship goes through a lot of ups and downs and taking it forward is not easy for a man serving the American Army. The two however get married and promise to face each hurdle together. But Katsumi gets heartbroken when she discovers her husband is taking interest in some other woman.
The lady is a famous kabuki performer Nakamura. Joe and his team get to hear the shocking announcement that all the men who are married to Japanese women have been asked to report back to their countries.
When Joe informs his wife about this news, she tells him that she is pregnant. Joe goes back to his senior to request his transfer and treats him as an exception, but he doesn’t listen.
At the 30th Academy Awards, the film was nominated in nine categories and won four, including Best Supporting Actor for Buttons and Best Supporting Actress for Umeki.
