Virat Kohli is 55 runs away from creating history, a chance to become the second Indian to make this record after Sachin Tendulkar.
India vs New Zealand 1st Test: India's star batsman Virat Kohli will have a chance to make a special record in the second Test match against New Zealand on Thursday (24 October) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. If Kohli scores 55 runs in this match, he will complete 16000 international runs in Asia.
Till now only three players have been able to achieve this feat. Sachin Tendulkar is at number one in this list and he has scored 21741 international runs in Asia. Kumar Sangakkara is at second place with 18423 runs and Mahela Jayawardene is at third place with 17386 runs.
If Kohli scores 64 runs in this match, he will become the fourth player in India-New Zealand Test history to complete 1000 runs. So far, only Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Brendon McCullum have scored 1000 or more runs in the Test matches between the two countries.
Apart from this, after hitting eight fours, Kohli will overtake Mahela Jayawardhan and come fourth in the list of players who have hit the most number of fours in international cricket. Kohli has hit 2672 fours in all three formats, while Jayawardene has 2679 fours in his name.
Let us tell you that Kohli has scored 936 runs in 23 innings of 12 Tests against New Zealand at an average of 44.57, in which his best score has been 211 runs.
Kohli had performed brilliantly in the first test match played in Bengaluru. After failing to open the account in the first innings, Kohli scored 70 runs in the second innings.
