Various issues related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) are being discussed in the GST Council meeting.
GST Council Meeting News: The GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday, deferred the decision on cutting taxes on life and health insurance premiums in its 55th meeting. The Commission said further technical consultation is needed before any changes can be implemented.
Various issues related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) are being discussed in the GST Council meeting. The 55th GST Council meeting chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman approved 5 per cent GST on ready-to-eat popcorn (if not pre-packed) with salt and spices, 12 per cent on pre-packed popcorn, caramel popcorn 18 percent GST on rice and 5 percent GST on fortified rice kernel was recommended.

The proposal to alter GST on insurance was postponed for further discussion. Apart from this, the Council recommended increasing GST on used electric vehicles (EV) and small petrol/diesel cars from 12 percent to 18 percent.
