Indian-origin Jerrssis Wadia steals the spotlight in BBL with a stunning 22 runs in his first 4 balls at No.6
Jerrssis Wadia grabbed attention on Saturday with his powerful batting in the Big Bash League match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heats. Even though the Strikers lost the game by 7 runs while chasing 180, Wadia’s fiery start became the biggest highlight of the match.
Explosive start at no. 6
Wadia walked in to bat at number six, right after Jamie Overton got out. He immediately took on Jack Wildermuth, smashing 22 runs in his first four balls. He hit three sixes and one four in the first balls, showing no signs of pressure and attacking from the very start.
Quick knock but missed the finish
Wadia kept the momentum going, scoring 34 runs off 16 balls. Sadly, he couldn’t finish the game for his team. He was dismissed in the 19th over, bowled out by Wildermuth himself.
Indian roots
Wadia has a strong Indian connection. He is a player of Indian origin, and his parents still live in Mumbai. He was part of the Adelaide Strikers U19s Academy programme before the Covid pandemic began.
Since the 2022/23 season, he has been playing regularly in South Australian Premier Cricket, representing teams like Adelaide, East Torrens, and Tea Tree Gully.
Signed as Alex Carey’s local replacement
Wadia is mainly known as a bowling all-rounder. He was signed by the Strikers as a local replacement player for Alex Carey.
Head coach Tim Paine said Jerrssis was a welcome addition to the squad.
“Jerrssis is a huge talent and we’re excited to see what he can do,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity and it’s a great sign for the Strikers Academy that he has been able to come through.”
Second Game in BBL
This was Wadia’s second match in the Big Bash League. His first match didn’t go well – he scored 7 runs off 9 balls and bowled 2 overs, giving away 20 runs.
According to the Cricket Australia website, Wadia has scored 680 runs in the South Australian Premier League, with a batting average of 56.67 and a top score of 123. He has also taken 19 wickets, showing his all-round skills in domestic cricket.
After the close loss against the Brisbane Heats, the Adelaide Strikers are now 7th on the league table. Out of 3 matches played so far, they have won 1 and lost 2.
