Abhishek Sharma hit 45 sixes in 60 minutes, making special preparations before T-20 World Cup

Abhishek asked, “How is the field?” Actually, he was not talking about a real match, but an imaginary field setting. Gaurav immediately replied that the fielder at mid-off was standing to stop the single. What happened after this shows the thinking and style of Abhishek. He swung the bat, the ball went high in the air and in no time it went out of the field.

For the world number one T20 batsman, this net session was not just practice, but a complete preparation for attack. In this session of about an hour at Anantham Cricket Ground outside Jaipur, he hit about 45 sixes. During this period, defensive shots were almost non-existent. This was a special kind of practice, in which Abhishek faced only spin bowlers. Off-spin, leg-spin and slow left-arm bowling, all on a pitch where the ball was turning well.

He asked the groundsman to use a lighter roller, but the pitch still remained challenging. Some balls were suddenly bouncing, while some were remaining low. Abhishek had come about 45 minutes later than the rest of the players and wanted to practice on the red clay center pitch, but due to rules he was not allowed. After this he bowled left-arm spin for about 40 minutes and discussed batting with the coaching staff. At the end of the session he faced the fast bowlers.

A young bowler was continuously bowling the ball outside the off stump, on which Abhishek smiled and said to bowl a little closer to the stumps. This small thing shows his mindset, always being ready to attack. This thinking is becoming the identity of the Punjab team.
