6000 people surrendered LPG connections, government gave last chance of 3 months

An important news has come to light amid the government’s efforts to promote PNG and better organize LPG supply. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, till Saturday 6000 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections. Ministry Secretary Neeraj Mittal expressed his gratitude to these consumers on the social media platform ‘X’ and said, ‘Till yesterday, 6000 PNG consumers surrendered their LPG. Thank you very much to them!’ He also appealed to other PNG users to help those who do not yet have access to PNG facilities.

LPG supply may stop after three months

According to the government’s strict plan, the supply of LPG cylinders will be stopped after three months in those houses where access to PNG pipeline is available but they have not yet taken the connection. This rule will not be applicable to those areas where PNG supply is not technically possible, provided a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) has been issued by an authorized institution.

Increased pressure on LPG

Pressure on LPG supply has increased due to import constraints from Western Asia. The main aim of the government is to shift consumers in pipeline areas to PNG, so that the remaining LPG can be sent to rural and remote areas where there is no pipeline infrastructure.

Order of priority in gas supply

Considering the current situation, gas supply has been divided on the basis of priority. 100% gas allocation is being given to CNG for domestic PNG and transportation sector.

Industrial and Commercial: These consumers are getting about 80% of their average gas usage.

Fertilizer Plant: Gas is being supplied to them at 70-75% capacity. Arrangements are being made for additional LNG cargo to meet the shortfall.

Strict action on LPG situation and black marketing

LPG delivery remains normal despite geopolitical conditions. According to media reports, there is no information about any shortage from anywhere. More than 55 lakh gas cylinders are being delivered every day. Commercial LPG supplies have been restored to about 70% of pre-crisis levels, with hotels, restaurants, food services and key industries being prioritized. The government has taken strict steps against hoarding and black marketing. In recent days, about 2,900 raids have been conducted and about 1,000 cylinders have been seized. Besides, the kerosene allocation of the states has also been increased.

Incentives for companies to promote PNG

The expansion of PNG network is being given a fast pace. More than 2,90,000 new PNG connections have been added in the month of March alone. Companies like Indraprastha Gas (IGL), Mahanagar Gas (MGL), GAIL Gas and BPCL are offering attractive incentives and discounts to consumers shifting from LPG to PNG.

Government’s appeal

The central government has asked states to increase monitoring, conduct daily briefings and expedite approvals for gas infrastructure. The public has been appealed not to pay attention to any rumor and have faith that the situation is completely under control.
