Ranchi: Voting for municipal government started on Monday in all 48 urban bodies of Jharkhand. Voters exercised their franchise. 61.83 percent voting took place in 48 municipal bodies. The highest turnout was in Seraikela Nagar Panchayat at 75.34 percent and the lowest was in Ranchi Municipal Corporation at 43.28 percent. 562 candidates are in the fray for the post of Mayor and President, while 5562 candidates are contesting for the post of Ward Councilor. The political future of all 6124 candidates was sealed in 8608 ballot boxes at 5 pm. This time elections have been held in nine Municipal Corporations, 20 Municipal Councils and 19 Nagar Panchayats of the state. Votes were cast for 48 posts of Mayor and President and 1042 posts of Ward Councilor, while 41 Ward Councilors have been elected unopposed, while no one filed nomination in three wards.

Uproar over bogus voting in booth number 177 of St. Anthony’s in Jugsalai, Rinku Singh sat on strike.

Why is 100 meter radius important?

As per the Model Code of Conduct of ECI, canvassing, campaigning or any election influencing activity is strictly prohibited within 100 meters of the polling station. This gives voters the opportunity to vote freely and without fear.
Jharkhand today has 4,300+ booths in 48 civic bodies, of which 896 are hyper-sensitive and 2,445 are sensitive. This rule is strictly enforced on them.
