62 foreigners detained in Malaysia for violating immigration rules

The crackdown, conducted by the Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division on June 15, covered several locations, including Cyberjaya, Bandar Seri Putra, Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Seri Kembangan, Sepang and Dengkil, The Star newspaper reported.

Authorities screened 210 individuals, both Malaysians and foreigners, during the raids.

Preliminary investigations indicated that some detainees had allegedly violated the conditions of their visit passes by working or engaging in activities that did not match the purpose of their entry into the country, New Straits Times reported.

Malaysia has recorded a rise in cases of foreign tourists abusing Social Visit Passes to work or conduct business illegally over the past two years, Malay Mail reported.

Malaysia’s Social Visit Pass allows foreign nationals to enter the country for tourism or to visit relatives for short-term stays ranging from 14 to 90 days, but it strictly prohibits employment or business activities.
