7.1 magnitude earthquake caused devastation in Japan, government issued big alert amid tsunami waves

New Delhi: A powerful earthquake of 7.1 magnitude that occurred on July 28, 2026 in the southern Kyushu region of Japan spread panic among the people. After the earthquake, waves about 3.28 feet high were recorded in the sea, due to which the administration has advised people living in coastal areas to immediately move to safe and higher places. The Japanese Meteorological Agency is continuously monitoring the situation, while the government has issued a high alert in many provinces.

Emergency alert in many provinces

After the earthquake, emergency warnings were issued in Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita and Miyazaki prefectures. On Japan’s seismic intensity scale, this earthquake was recorded in the maximum ‘Shindo 7’ category. Tremors of this level are considered so strong that it becomes difficult for people to even stand. Many buildings were seen shaking rapidly and people came out of their homes and offices.
