71 MLAs are crorepatis in Jharkhand; Who is the richest, who has the least assets?
Assembly elections in Jharkhand have ended. This time, 89 percent of the newly elected MLAs in Jharkhand are 'crorepatis'. Congress's Rameshwar Oraon is the richest MLA with net worth of Rs 42.20 crore, according to reports by Jharkhand Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
ADR analyzed the affidavits of 80 of the 81 candidates who won the elections. ADR found that 71 newly elected MLAs are 'crorepatis'. This number is 20 percent more than the number of such MLAs elected in 2019.

According to the ADR report, out of the 71 crorepati MLAs this year, 28 are from JMM, 20 from BJP, 14 from Congress, four from RJD, two from CPI(ML) Liberation and one each from LJP (Ram Vilas), JD(U) and AJSU party. That means most of the MLAs of JMM are crorepatis.
In this election, JMM won 34 assembly seats while its ally Congress won 16, RJD won four and CPI (ML) Liberation won two seats. Five years ago, in 2019, out of 81 MLAs elected, 56 were 'crorepatis'. In 2014, the number of crorepati MLAs was 41.
In these assembly elections, BJP won 21 assembly seats, while its allies LJP (Ram Vilas), JD (U) and AJSU party won one seat each. The average asset of every candidate winning this election is Rs 6.90 crore. The average assets of each candidate in the 2019 elections were Rs 3.87 crore. Among the winning candidates, Congress' Lohardaga MLA Rameshwar Oraon is the richest with net worth of Rs 42.20 crore.

BJP's Kushwaha Shashi Bhushan Mehta, who won from Panki seat, is the second richest newly elected MLA with a net worth of Rs 32.15 crore, while RJD's Sanjay Prasad Yadav, who won from Godda seat, is at the third position with a net worth of Rs 29.59 crore.
Jairam Kumar Mahato of Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM), who won from Dumri seat, has the least assets. He has assets worth about Rs 2.55 lakh. 14 newly elected MLAs have also declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and above.
