73 lakh smart prepaid meters installed across the country: Minister
As per the data, 83,573 smart meters have been sanctioned for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and 4.03 lakh for Puducherry. The Central Government launched RDSS for five years i.e. (FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26) with an outlay of Rs 3,03,758 crore and Estimated Government Budgetary Support (GBS) of Rs 97,631 crore from the Central Government. The scheme aims to reduce Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses by 12-15 per cent at all India level by 2024-25 and reduce the Average Cost of Supply (ACS)-Average Revenue (ARR) gap to zero.
The scheme has two major components: Part ‘A’ – Financial assistance for prepaid smart metering and system metering and upgradation of distribution infrastructure and Part ‘B’ – Training and capacity building and other enabling and supporting activities. Financial assistance is provided to Discoms for upgradation of distribution infrastructure and prepaid smart consumer metering and system metering, subject to meeting pre-qualification criteria and achieving basic minimum benchmarks in reforms. The scheme is being included in the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) as well as Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP)-2015 for Jammu and Kashmir, the implementation of which will be as per their existing direction. Will be done as per instructions and existing terms and conditions.
