75th Berlin International Film Festival: Tilda Swinton to receive Honorary Golden Bear Award
Washington: Tilda Swinton, best known for her work in 'The Deep End', 'Vanilla Sky', 'Adaptation' and 'Young Adam', is all set to receive the Honorary Golden Bear at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. He will receive an honorary Golden Bear for his lifetime achievement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the award will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Berlinale Palast on February 13, 2025. “The range of Tilda Swinton's work is amazing,” said Tricia Tuttle, director of the Berlinale Festival. “She brings so much humanity, compassion, intelligence, humor, and style, and she expands our views of the world through her work. Tilda is one of our modern filmmaking idols, and has long been a member of the Berlinale. We are happy to present him with this honorary Golden Bear.” Swinton has been a prominent face at the Berlinale for decades, starring in 26 films that have screened in various sections over the years.
Highlights include Derek Jarman's Caravaggio, which won the Silver Bear at the 1986 Berlinale, Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, which opened the 2014 festival, and the Coen brothers' 2016 Berlinale debut Hail, Caesar! According to The Hollywood Reporter, in 2009, he served as president of the Berlin competition jury. “Berlinale is the first film festival I went to with Derek Jarman in 1986, and the first film I made was his Caravaggio,” Swinton said in a statement, adding, “It was my gateway into that world. in which I have done my life's work – the world of international filmmaking – and I have never forgotten my debt to it. It is very touching for me to be honored in this way by this special festival: it is my privilege and pleasure I hope I'll be back next February to celebrate this wide-eyed and faithfully wonderful gathering,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
