According to The Starthe 76-year-old actor said in an interview with Hong Kong media that he engaged two senior counsels and three junior lawyers to defend Wong’s case.

“I invested so much effort, and spent hundreds of thousands in legal fees for this relationship,” Lee was quoted as saying. (HK$100,000 = US$12,830)

When asked whether Wong had taken a large amount of money from him over the years, Lee said he did not want to calculate the total. He also stressed that Wong was not motivated by money and did not live extravagantly.

“I gave her tens of thousands at most for shopping and groceries, but she didn’t buy any expensive handbags,” he said.

Wong, a Chinese national, was arrested in February 2024. Investigators also found that she had used forged U.S. university diplomas when applying to enter Hong Kong under a preferential immigration scheme. She was sentenced in June 2024 after pleading guilty to several charges, including overstaying in Hong Kong and document falsification.

Throughout her imprisonment, Lee frequently visited Wong and wrote letters to her. He also went to pick her up upon her release in July 2025 and proposed to her. Wong later returned to her hometown in Foshan, while Lee remained in Hong Kong.

The couple ended their relationship late last year after reports emerged that Wong is already married and has a teenage son.

Lee and Wong made their relationship public in 2020, amid reports that Wong had suffered a miscarriage of Lee’s child, according to The Straits Times. Lee was previously married once and has three children with his ex-wife, all of whom are older than Wong.
