Around 8,500 low-income families in Singapore will each receive SGD400 (US$308) in e-vouchers from a non-profit organization to offset expenses for their children’s new academic year.

The figure was announced by the Chinese Development Assistance Council on Sunday, which added that the vouchers will cover transport, essential school supplies and other education-related needs, according to The Straits Times.

In total more than SGD3 million in vouchers will be distributed to its beneficiaries, a number similar to last year when 8,300 families received the support.

The council added that it is setting aside SGD47 million to expand its education programs and family support initiatives in 2026.

To qualify for the vouchers, families must have at least one child enrolled full-time in school in 2026 and must be beneficiaries of one of its assistance schemes or programmes. Eligible children may be in kindergarten through university.

The vouchers can be used to pay for transport and purchases at any of transit platform SimplyGo’s more than 760 participating merchants.

The Chinese Development Assistance Council is one of four ethnic-based self-help groups in Singapore, alongside the Singapore Indian Development Association, the Eurasian Association and Yayasan Mendaki.
