Colombo: At present, heavy rains are wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka, where life has become disrupted due to rain. A major accident occurred when a tractor was washed away in the floods caused by heavy rains in the country. Eight people, including six school children, went missing. Police gave information about this major incident on Wednesday. Arrangements are being made in view of the worsening situation due to heavy rains in Sri Lanka. In this, Army and Navy personnel were deployed to rescue the victims and provide food and other essential items to the affected people.

According to the information received, there has been heavy rain and strong winds in Sri Lanka for the last two days, due to which houses, fields and roads have been flooded and the authorities have suspended rail services in the tea producing hilly areas. Apart from this, police said that in this unfortunate incident, an agricultural tractor carrying 11 school children returning from school was washed away in the eastern region of the country on Tuesday evening. Let us tell you that this incident took place near Karaitivu town. In this incident, five children were rescued while six other children, the driver and another person are still missing. Police said in a statement that the search operation is ongoing.

More than 3 thousand people were taken to relief center
Apart from this, a woman died after a brick wall collapsed in Badulla, a mountainous region in the central part of the country. The Disaster Management Center said eight people were injured in other weather-related incidents. As of Wednesday, more than 3,000 people were evacuated to relief centers and about 600 houses were damaged. The Meteorological Department has blamed the deep pressure in the Bay of Bengal for this bad weather and has warned that it is likely to reach close to Sri Lanka and turn into a cyclonic storm on Thursday.
