8th Pay Commission: 300% jump in salary of government employees? Peon will also get Rs 69 thousand
A very big news is coming for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners. Everyone’s eyes are now on the 8th Pay Commission. If the government accepts the latest demands of the employee organizations, then there will be a huge jump in the salaries of peons working in government offices to IAS officers holding the highest posts in the country. There are speculations that this salary increase may be much more than expected.
More than 3 times increase in minimum salary The entire mathematics depends on how much the salary will increase under the new system. According to the current figures, the minimum basic salary which is currently Rs 18,000, can directly cross Rs 69,000 after the implementation of the new system. Recently, a high-level meeting of the National Council was held in Delhi between 28th and 30th April, in which the demand for major reforms in the wage structure in this era of inflation was strongly raised.
What is the whole matter of ‘fitment factor’? The biggest factor behind salary increase is the ‘fitment factor’. In simple words, the basic salary of a government employee is decided by this formula. In the 7th Pay Commission it was kept at 2.57. Now the employee union is demanding that it should be increased to 3.83 in the 8th Pay Commission. If this happens, the salary of Rs 18,000 will jump to Rs 68,940. Pensioners will also get its direct benefit because pension is directly linked to basic pay.
How much will the salary increase from Level 1 to Level 7? If the government accepts the formula of 3.83, then the salary of Level 1 (Peon and Attendant) will increase from Rs 18 thousand to around Rs 69 thousand. The salary of Lower Division Clerk may increase from Rs 19,900 to around Rs 76,000. Whereas the basic pay of constable can increase from Rs 21,700 to Rs 83,000 and the salary of junior clerk can increase from Rs 25,500 to around Rs 97,000. The salary of Level 6 employees is estimated to reach Rs 1.35 lakh and that of Level 7 officers is estimated to reach Rs 1.72 lakh.
IAS and senior officers have only silver This explosion of salary hike will not only be limited to the lower level, but it will be no less than a lottery for the top bureaucracy. The salary of Level 13 officers will directly increase from Rs 1.23 lakh to Rs 4.71 lakh. At the same time, the basic salary of the highest post i.e. Level 18 (Cabinet Secretary level) can directly increase from Rs 2.50 lakh to Rs 9.57 lakh. If this proposal is passed, it will prove to be the biggest wage increase in history.
