The central government generally sets up a pay commission every 10 years. The main task of this commission is to review the pay, allowances, pension and service conditions of government employees and make new recommendations. The Seventh Pay Commission, which was implemented earlier, was implemented from January 1, 2016. Since almost a decade has passed since then, the demands of the employees for the 8th Pay Commission have been gaining momentum. If the process is completed on time and the central government gives speedy approval to the recommendations, the revised pay is expected to come into effect from April 2027. The most discussed issue in the 8th Pay Commission is “Fitment Factor”. In the 7th Pay Commission the fitment factor was 2.57. If it increases to around 2.86 to 3.00 in the 8th commission, then the salary of the employees can get a big hike.
