‘Three’ Important Indications of Pay Commission Implementation

According to experts, there are clear indications that the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented soon:

1. 10 years gap: The 5th, 6th and 7th Pay Commissions have been implemented every 10 years (1996, 2006, 2016). A new commission is expected to come in 2026 according to that calculation.

2. Dearness Allowance (DA): When the DA goes beyond 50%, the demand for a new pay commission intensifies. Currently DA has reached 58%.

3. Government Approval: The proposal was given in-principle approval by the Cabinet in January 2025, while it was sealed on 3 November 2025.

From when to get increased salary?

Although the ‘effective date’ of the 8th Pay Commission may be 1 January 2026, the employees will have to wait for some more time for the actual increase in their bank accounts. The commission has been given 18 months, after which the cabinet approval and departmental process will take place. Going by the experience of 7th Pay Commission, employees are more likely to get actual increase in salary and arrears in FY 2026-27.
