Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma shared this big information while talking to journalists in Guwahati on Thursday. He proudly said that after the Central Government, Assam is the first state in the country which has taken such a big step towards improving the salary structure of its employees. The Chief Minister made it clear that the command of this new pay commission will be given to the former Additional Chief Secretary. Subhash Das Has been handed over to, who will preside over it.

Sharma described the decision as a milestone in the direction of ‘progressive governance’ and ’employee welfare’. He said that even though the central employees have been waiting for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission for a long time, Assam has taken the initiative. Till now, no other state in the country has shown this courage following the footsteps of the Centre.

Salary picture will change after 2015

The Assam government had earlier constituted the Pay Commission in the year 2015, on the basis of which the employees are currently getting salaries and allowances. Now after about 10 years, the salary structure, allowances and service conditions will be reviewed again. It is noteworthy that the provisions of the 8th Pay Commission of the Central Government are expected to be effective from January 1, 2026. In such a situation, experts believe that the employees of Assam can get the benefit of increased salary and arrears much earlier than the Centre.

When will the new salary be implemented and what is the process?

Usually any Pay Commission takes about 18 months to prepare its complete report and recommendations. After submitting the report, the government reviews those recommendations and then they are notified. Experts say that even though the date of formation of this commission has been fixed around January 1, the final structure of revised salary and pension will be fully implemented by the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027. With this step of the Assam government, the employees of the state can get the boost for which the central employees are eagerly waiting.
